A two days training programme on ‘Cyber Law for Police’ was organized by Chanakya National Law University in collaboration with Bihar Police Research and Development (BPRD) in Patna on 11^th and 12^th Dec.2010. The programme was attended by 72 Police officers ranging from IPS officers to Sub Inspectors.

The programme was inaugurated by Additional Director General of Police (Training) Shri Abhynad jee along with Vice Chancellor of Prof. Dr. A. Laxminath, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, IAS., Commissioner, Darbhanga Division, Bihar, Dr. S. P. Singh, Registrar CNLU, Dr. Saurabh Chaturvedi, Associate Professor, CNLU and Dr. K. Sita Manikyam, Faculty of Law, Andhra University.

While addressing the trainers Shri Abhyanand jee discussed about the need for computer science and its emerging need in crime detection and prevention. He insisted that the State needs more computer savvy police officer to cope up the pace of digital crimes, besides this he said that CNLU has taken an initiative, which is highly appreciable.

Prof. A. Laxminath, Vice Chancellor shown his commitment on the requisite need for training of police officers. By illustrating some verses of Vedas and Ramayana he insisted that it is the high time to learn new technologies otherwise we shall be lagging behind from our own decedents. He promised that the University shall always be helping the State for developing police officers and cyber law experts to reach on all expectations of State Govt.

Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, IAS, Commissioner Darbhanga , Bihar, took a lecture on cyber law related technical issues and the emerging need of computer forensic science expertise at different level of investigation done by police officers.

The Registrar Dr. S.P. Singh gave some overview glimpse on the training contents and the issues of discussion during training programme along with the teaching manner specially designed to train police officers.

The 2^nd day training programme started with a lecture taken by Dr. Saurabh Chaturvedi, on probable areas of cyber crime commission, the modus operendi of the criminals and their connectivity in various financial fraud, forgery and Indian legal system.

Dr.K. Sita Manikyam discussed all those gray areas where there is a need to make more focused laws on cyber crime as Indian laws are very weak to fight with technical mode of crime commitance across the globe besides this she discussed some very important case laws in recent past.

The last lecture was taken by Shri Lok Nath Behera, IPS, Inspector General Police, who is a member of Cyber Law Enforcement Committee, established by Supreme Court On India, he put a very sharp light on the modus operendi of Cyber crime happened in the past and how he detected them with a very limited workforce including Madhumita case. He urged the need to be more computer literate police officers for sure.

The programme was concluded by the Vice Chancellor CNLU,  Inspector General Police Shri Lok Nath Behera , and all other guest faculties by giving a commitment that all will work together to make people more aware on cyber law issues.
