About University
In the State of Bihar, where the seeds of the earliest republic were sown and the crop of democracy cultivated, a need was felt by the government for a university which would provide quality legal education and strive to raise national legal standards to competitive international level and promote legal awareness in the community, which will lead to the realization of goals embodied in the Constitution of India. Thus, on August 15th, 2006 came into being Chanakya National Law University at Patna under the able guidance of its Vice - Chancellor/Pro - Chancellor, Prof. Dr. A. Lakshminath, former Dean and Registrar, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.

Thus, on August 15th, 2006 came into being Chanakya National Law University at Patna under the able guidance of its Vice - Chancellor/Pro - Chancellor, Prof. Dr. A. Lakshminath, former Dean and Registrar, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. CNLU was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006) and included in section 2(f) & 12(B) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956.
CNLU Convocation Ceremony 23rd Feb 2013 The First Convocation ceremony of Chanakya National Law University, Patna was held in its premises on 23rd February 2013 in august presence of Hon’ble Justice Mr. Altamas Kabir, the Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Jutice Ms. Rekha M. Doshit, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court cum Chancellor, CNLU, Patna, Shri Nitish Kumar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri P. K. Shahi, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Govt. of Bihar, Mr. Amarjit Sinha, Principal Secretary of Education Ministry, Govt. of Bihar, Shri Ram Balak Mahto, Advocate General, Bihar, Shre Manan Kumar Mishra, President, Bar Council of India, Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi and Justice Bharukha, Padmashree Prof. Madhav Menon, pioneer of various National Law Universities along with Prof. Shiv Kumar, Director, ILI, New Delhi, were also present on this historic occasion. This function was graced by legions of legal luminaries and distinguished guests from all walks of life. The function started with procession of distinguished guests and members of executive committee that was led by the Registrar, Dr. S. P. Singh. Hon’ble VC, Prof. Dr. A. Lakshminath in his inaugural address welcomed the guests with shawls and mementos and briefed them about laurels of success brought by the students of CNLU. The CJI in his presidential address heaped supreme praise on the students of this University and exhorted them to inculcate strong ethical professionalism in themselves to shoulder their enormous responsibility of imparting social justice to every segment of society......
