Moot Court Society

Moot court is an extracurricular activity at many law schools in which participants take part in simulated court proceedings, usually to include drafting briefs and participating in oral argument. "Moot court" differs from a "mock trial", as moot court usually refers to a simulated appellate court or arbitral case, while a "mock trial" usually refers to a simulated jury trial or bench trial. Moot court does not involve actual testimony by witnesses or the presentation of evidence, but is focused solely on the application of the law to a common set of evidentiary assumptions to which the competitors must be introduced. The Moot Court Program encourages the development of skills in brief writing and oral advocacy and recognizes those students who excel in developing these skills.

The moot court society of CHANAKYA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY is composed of students selected on electoral basis who work under the guidance of successful and experienced mooters who also have good organisational experience. The committee is responsible for organising intra moot court competitions, on the basis of which collage team is setup and send to various moot court competitions. The committee is also heading to organize its first moot court competition in the near future.

Teams selected in intra moot court competition represent CNLU at at least 10 competitions every year. In 2008, member of our team was awarded with fourth best speaker at the Surana and Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Competition. The team was also successful in making it to the semi-final of the same. The university was also awarded with 4th best memorial award(national rounds) at the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition and the Stetson Environmental Law Moot(national rounds), both in 2008. Further in Common Wealth Moot Court competition, 2009 one of the team member was awarded with the best female speaker award.
