Dr. Subhash Chandra Roy is Professor of Law (from July 2016) and Dean Research & Development in Chanakya National law University Patna. He did his Graduation, Post-graduation and Doctorate from T.M. Bhagalpur University (Bihar), INDIA, in ‘English literature’ and ‘Law’, (Ph.D.-IPRs). Before joining academics, he joined Bar at Bhagalpur District court and practiced for five years. Besides teaching in Chanakya National Law University, he has been visiting professor in PUSA Agriculture University (Bihar), National Institute of Pharmaceutical and Research (Bihar) Hajipur, Insurance Institutes at Patna, Bihar Judicial Academy (BJA), Patna, Bihar Public Administration Academy WALMI Patna, National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) and Department of Environmental Science P.U. He has addressed the Insurance trainees at various Insurance Training Institutes in Patna, HRDC- RC and OP participants at ASC Lucknow and Patna University, Sonipat (Haryana), Malviya Mission Training Programs. He is qualified in licentiate and Associate (part) in Insurance from Insurance Institute of India (III) Mumbai and Company secretaries (inter-part) exams.
He has undergone online courses in Disaster management from NIDM (New Delhi). He has undergone various legal training program in- Environmental Law, ADR, Corporate Law, Labor and Industrial Law, IPR, Human Rights, Cyber Law, Research Methodology, Disaster management, Consumer Protection from the reputed Universities and Academic Staff Colleges, i.e. refresher courses, professional development courses and legal training – BHU, Indian society of international Law (ISIL), NLU New Delhi, NLSIU Bangalore, NUJS Kolkata, CNLU Patna, Allahabad university, ASC Lucknow, ASC Kumaun University Nainital (UK), Indian Institute of Public Administration New Delhi, NIRD Eastern zone, Salgoankar Law College Goa, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Anna University Chennai, Dept. of Law Trivandrum University Kerala, Ramaya college Bengaluru.
He visited National University of Singapore (NUS)-TRILA-(2018), SMU (Singapore Management University,2019), IIUM University of Malaysia-(2019), Foreign Trade University Vietnam (2024), Waseda University Tokyo Japan (2025), in Academic programs and presented research papers in conference. He also chaired session in Waseda University in 7th IPIRA Conference 2025.He has visited Tribhuvan University (External External) and addressed the students at Kathmandu School of Law (KLS) in Nepal in August 2025. He has participated in the international conference organised by International Association of Law School (IALS) at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, Bangkok, in September 2025. He participated in Six days Training Workshop on Investment and International Arbitration Law (24th to 29th November 2025).
Dr. Roy has credit of participation and presentation of research papers in more than 100 National seminar and thirty-two international seminars /workshops in India and abroad. He has delivered Keynote address and chaired the session’s at–BHU, Gorakhpur University, Gwalior University, North Hills University, Meghalaya, Jabalpur University and Bareilly and Jagran Lake University Bhopal in seminars. He has been seminar coordinator also. His research papers are published in journals –Dr. Ambedkar Journal of Social science MHOW, Ideal Research Review, The Voice, Chotanagpur Law Journal, Nayay Sandesh, Juris Ray, Relevance, PCCR, A Journal of Asia for Democracy and Development, Assam Law Times, Social Vision, International journal of psychology and education, National Journal of Comparative Law, VBU Journal of Law and Governance; Bharti Law Review Pune , Indian Bar Review, RML Journal Lucknow, Journal of DSNLU Vizk , Book Review in Asian Journal of International Law, and contributed chapters in various books, i.e. ‘Creative activities and the law’, ‘Celebrating satyagraha’, ‘Changing dimension of women empowerment’, ‘Intellectual Property Law’, ‘Human Rights and Gender Justice ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Dimensions and Issues’, ‘Police reform :Need and challenges’, ‘Physical education-yoga-sports-medicine and Naturopathy’, ‘Multidimension of Physical education’, ‘Women political Leadership in India’, ‘Ethno-pharmacology: Indian Trends, Perspectives and Innovations’ etc. on different Socio-economic-politico-legal issues. He is advisor and editor of National journals also. He has authored books –“Lectures on Intellectual property Law”, “An analytical study of Intellectual Property Rights in India”, ‘Oscar Wilde: Legal Wits and Conversation’; and books edited – “Intellectual Property Rights—A Prismatic View”, “Working of Patents: Law and Pharmaceutical Implications”, “Information security: Law and Governance”, “The Invisible Law: Collection of Poems”, “Intellectual Property Assets and Consumer Rights”. He has been Coordinator-Academic (2009-31st March 2017), Research Coordinator (from 2008-31st March 2017) and IQAC coordinator (June 2015- June 2022), Dean Research and Development, (2017–), Directors-(2020–), DPIIT IPR CHAIR PROFESSOR (2023-) at CNLU. He has supervised LL.M. dissertations. He has supervised doctoral scholars produced Eight Ph.D. and Two LL.D. also. He has done four empirical research projects under DPIIT IPR Chair at CNLU Patna.
He has been member of various Academic organizations/committees / associations in India- Indian Society of Criminology, Indian Society of Labor Economics, Indian Council of Arbitration, IIPA, Indian Law Institute (ILI), Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), Indian Law Teachers Congress and CIL of National University of Singapore (NUS). Dr. Roy has organised National seminars, symposium, workshop on human rights, Emerging IPRs issues, Gender justice issues, IP and Sports, Biodiversity workshop sponsored by UNDP. The hunger for learning is continued with a mission to build up ‘entrepreneur-professionals’ in the University and has been encouraging young teachers for research and training.
